The Horus Heresy Novels (Spoilers)

Postby Kairo » Tue Jan 01, 2008 11:34 pm

So I bought the first three books of the series and just finished the first novel, Horus Rising. Initial thoughts:

- Horus is refreshingly characterful. I feel pity for knowing what is to happen.

- The aspects of the Luna Wolves and the details about the background of the Great Crusade is pretty entertaining.

- Loved the battle against the Mega-Arachnids.

- Very cool to see Abaddon and Lucius before their turn to Chaos.

- The Interex and the encounter with Word Bearers 1st Chaplain Erebus was tragic. I'm almost tempted to make an Interex army.

I am on the third book right now (I have all 6), and it's been a good read so far. I agree, it's nice to see what everyone was like before the fall, Horus is pretty bad ass, before he turns into a prick. I didn't know Luna Wolves became Sons of Horus.
In the third book, you get to see Fabius' beginnings, really interesting, I never new he started out as an EC Apotho. Neat stuff.

Yeah, I didn't know that Fabius was with the Emperor's Children either. You'll get to read more about him in the 5th book, entitled Fulgrim. ;)

Finished reading Legion. Man, that's a great book. So now the real questions: Are the Alpha Legion chaos? Are they working for the Cabal? Or did they find a third option to try and save mankind? How far will they allow their splinter cells to go in order to make the masquerade a sucess?

I figured out there is one great thing about having your house burn down; nearly unlimited, catch-all excuse for anything that ever happens.

Related: My Horus Heresy Book came back two days ago. It smells like BBQ!

"You know that report was due yesterday."

"Oh, yeah, my house burnt down. Sorry..."

"I'm so sorry... um... yeah... just whenever you have the time..."

I'm about to start Decent of Angels (after I finish moving). Man, the battle of Isstvan V was nuts.

Does anyone else still read these? I've been pleasantly surprised by them. The DA stuff in particular has really been good.

I started reading A Thousand Sons. So far, I really like two things. First is the organizing philosophy. 9 Fellowships (chapters) with the assorted supporting units and supporting spirits. Second, the development of background for Ahzek Ahriman is better than I anticipated. I'm looking forward to see how this novel plays out the battle of Prospero.
