Surely most assumed the brave man in the static filled image had died only moments later, but he had not. Even in death, the picture would have inspired the best in thousands of fellow guardsmen and perhaps even some volunteers.

Photos did not capture the way that Lt. Karrolinger beat back the Chaos Marine, slayed him, and through this feat of courage rallied his men back into the fight. Against the onslaught, in spite of their losses, the Black Lions were the strong point that turned back the waves of Chaos that day.
